I love the sky so birds and clouds are images seen often in my paintings along with found or created objects. The street lamp globe gave me the opportunity to create a daytime and a nighttime scene in one piece. I used the mannequin hand to create the “finishing touch”. The last stroke of the brush depends on what angle the lantern is being viewed.
My idea was conceived by the light that the street lamp globe itself projects. The sunlight portrayed in my interior painting depicts the sun from above and the night from below. The street lamp is below the night sky and guides us and keeps us safe at night. The exterior painting shows the moon guiding the birds at night as it does us.
This is a lantern submitted for the “Illumination” exhibition at the Cameron Art Museum, Winter 2020.
