Moon Dancer

The moonflower is one of my favorite flowers. Only blooming at dusk they attract moths of the night! One evening as I was admiring the blooms outside my window I saw one of the flowers “dancing”. Getting a closer view I discovered a sphinx moth enjoying the nectar of this heavenly flower. It was almost the size of a hummingbird. I was intrigued by this moth for several evenings.

My painting was already in progress with an insect in the middle of the flower. I felt this sighting was a gift from the moon bringing this rarely seen insect to me. I could envision the “moth flower” flapping its petal wings coming to earth from moons unknown!
